One of the most common questions we are asked is “What is a nice engagement ring going to cost?” The good news is that Benold’s Jewelers carries a large selection of designer settings in a variety of precious metals to cater to any budget. The next question is usually “Why do the costs of diamonds vary so much, even when the carat weight or color seems the same?” The answer to that question lies not only in the four C’s (cut, color, clarity and carat weight), but also in how a diamond is graded and by whom. Diamond grading requires strict standards and practices, and nowhere are these standards more stringent than in United States laboratories. Diamond grading facilities that are located outside the US are not subject to the same standards, and oftentimes diamonds graded with fewer restrictions are offered as “comparable” to diamonds that are graded in the US.
Benold’s Jewelers sells diamonds graded in the finest American labs such as Gemological Institute of America (GIA), The American Gem Society (AGS) and the European Gemological Institute in NewYork and Los Angeles (EGL USA). Be aware that many diamonds sold on the internet or by “direct importers” may be diamonds that have been certified outside the US and not necessarily comparable in quality. We invite you to stop by and chat with one of our diamond experts. No hard sell, no pressure, ever- just friendly consultants committed to making sure you are completely informed, comfortable and satisfied with your jewelry purchase.
